Noah Kahan announces 2027 stadium tour. Why is he playing Fenway again instead of Gillette?

Noah Kahan’s 2027 summer tour was officially announced Thursday, and the Vermont native is choosing to perform at Fenway Park rather than at the larger, more lucrative Gillette Stadium.

Indeed, Fenway, which Kahan filled for four nights last July , is by far the smallest of any of the venues on the singer’s 2027 world tour , which begins in January in Mexico. All of the US venues on the singer’s “Last Of The Bugs World Tour” are football stadiums, with capacities vastly greater than Fenway.

Kahan and his band will take the centerfield stage at Fenway for four nights, from May 29 through June 2.

The singer’s enthusiasm for Fenway aside, it’s not clear why Kahan is shunning Gillette Stadium, forsaking multiple certain sellouts that would make him millions of dollars more than four nights at the Red Sox’s lyric little bandbox .

His camp isn’t talking, but it seems possible that Kahan was bothered by the actions last month of Robert Kraft , who demanded that rapper Macklemore be removed as the opening act for Ed Sheeran’s show at Gillette because he yelled “Free Palestine!” on stage in New Jersey. Kahan, who is Jewish, has not commented on the Patriots owner’s intervention, but he was one of several artists who liked Macklemore’s statement on social media after he was kicked off Sheeran’s tour.

Meanwhile, the folks at Fenway are clearly delighted that Kahan is returning to the ballpark. With a Major League Baseball strike possible — perhaps even likely — next summer, team executives are no doubt scrambling to schedule concerts and other events that could help compensate for the loss of revenue.

The instant Kahan’s tour was announced Thursday morning, the Red Sox sent an email crowing about Kahan’s four “hometown shows” at Fenway. Never mind that Kahan grew up far away from Boston, on a tree farm in Strafford, Vt.
